Elite animals hiding in the herd

This month's proof release saw Donovans Griff 21017, from the Mann family’s 2,000+ strong Donovan’s Dairy herd in Wye, South Australia, come in at number 9 on the top cows list and go straight to number 1 on the new heifer list, an example of an elite animal hiding in the herd according to Holstein Australia's Rohan Butler.

New Dairy Australia MD

Holstein Australia welcomes the appointment of Dr David Nation as the new managing director of Dairy Australia.

Commenting on his appointment Dr Nation said: "I look forward to working with people right across the industry and government to deliver programs that will help dairy prosper and deliver real value to our farmers and their communities."

Polled genetics alliance
AI company Semex has announced a relationship with a gene editing company that will allow its bulls in the future to result from high merit embryos genetically edited for the polled gene.

Australian Dairy Herd Improvement Report 2017 released
Did you know that in 2016/17 herd recorded cows produced 25% more litres of milk than non-recorded cows? Or that registered Holsteins produced an average of 8,127 litres of milk and 567 kg of solids? Its all in the Australian Dairy Herd Improvement Report.

Coomboona tops $7,000 three times
Coomboona Steady Rosina, Coomboona McCutchen Lautamisha, VG and Coomboona Mogul Shana all achieved top price at last Friday's Elite Dispersal of Coomboona Holsteins in Mooroopna.

Semex-Holstein Australia All-Australian Competition
Entries close 30th June for the 2017/18 Semex-Holstein Australia All-Australian Photographic Competition, which recognises excellence in conformation and showing and is open to all Holstein Australia Herdbook and Appendix 1,2 and 3 females that have been successfully shown at nominated All-Australian shows.

Final call for 2018 Holstein UK Youth Exchange applications
If you would like to gain first-hand knowledge of how dairy farming in the UK compares to that of Australia, you have until tomorrow night to apply for our 2018 UK exchange. The exchange takes place during September and October.
