National Youth Coordinator appointed

Holstein Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Katelin Davies as its National Youth Coordinator.

Katelin is the current Events and Youth Coordinator for Hereford Australia and has many years experience within the livestock and youth environments, including with Canada’s beef youth movement and the Canadian Hereford Association.

UK Exchange 2018 finishes on a high

Amabel Grinter from Muckatah, Victoria, completed her 2018 Holstein UK Exchange in style as part of the Lancashire team that won top showmanship & calf teams and overall top team for eighth consecutive year at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show.

Western District Dairy Youth Camp registrations open
The Western District Dairy Youth Camp for 8 to 16 year olds will be held over 3 days at the Noorat Showgrounds from 6 – 9 January 2019. Register before 30 November.

Workability scores should be recorded for dairy heifers
DAIRY farmers are being encouraged to record the workability scores of their spring-calving heifers, with a focus on milking speed, temperament and likability. Breeding values for workability are rated highly by farmers looking at genetics and are well used, according to DataGene's Michelle Axford. (Pic: Weekly Times)

World Holstein Friesian Federation Classifiers Workshop
Hosted by Holstein UK, 47 WHFF participants, including Holstein Australia's Sean Millar, attended the World Classifiers Workshop last month, with classifiers and geneticists from 25 countries working on harmonising type traits.

New Zealand dairy database subject to regulatory review
Genetic gain through animal evaluation in the NZ dairy industry is estimated to contribute $300 million a year to the economy as the industry's core database comes under regulatory review.

All-European Championships Belgium trip 2019
Holstein Australia member Declan Patten is organising a trip to next year's All-European Championships and European breeders in April next year, with expressions of interest required by 31 October.
